Liver Cirrhosis Studies

7. Current research on liver cirrhosis

Research into liver cirrhosis has made important progress. When the underlying cause is identified and treated early, the disease may be slowed or even stopped. Clinical studies are also exploring new medicines and treatments to improve symptoms and prevent complications.

An Austrian study showed that completely avoiding alcohol can benefit people with alcohol-related cirrhosis, even in advanced stages. Researchers at the University of Münster also created a database of more than 10,000 liver-cell proteins, which may support the development of new treatments and diagnostic tests.
